Appiahkrom (V/R), Sept. 29, GNA - A lightening set ablaze a mosque at Appiahkrom in the Jasikan District, killing a 16-year-old boy and injured another.
The deceased, Muhammed Umaru, a form two pupil of the Chereponi L.A. JSS in the Northern Region, had visited the village to collect school fees from the parents, according to the Odikro of the village, Nana Appiah-Nyarko.
Nana Appiah-Nyarko said Umaru joined 90 other pupils, who were studying Arabic in the mosque when the accident occurred.
He commended the efforts of the local inhabitants, who bravely rescued the children from the blazing thatch-roofed mosque before it went into ashes.
Musa Anass, 19, the injured pupil was treated and discharged at the Tapa-Abotoase Clinic.
The Odikro said the corpse had been buried at the local cemetery. When contacted, the Abotoase police declined to comment on the incident and referred the matter to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
