Ex-NPP Chairman Charged With Rape

Mr. James Appiah Memsah, a tutor at Kwegir Aggrey Secondary School at Anomabu and a former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency in the Central Region has appeared at the Cape Coast Circuit Court for allegedly raping a student.

Giving the facts of the case at the Circuit Court presided over by Justice Bereford Acquah, Prosecutor Chief Inspector Amonoo asserted that the victim, Miss Constance Ackah and the accused are both student and tutor at the Kwegyir Aggrey Secondary School.

On the 19th of February this year, the student sought permission from the school authorities to visit her parents at Kasoa in the Central Region at about 5:30pm.

According to the prosecutor, the victim, Ms Constance Ackah was spotted at Mankessim on her way to Kasoa by her tutor and the unsuspecting victim was lured to this house. The tutor allegedly had sex with her at 12:35 noon and 5:00 am respectively before setting her free. The victim reported the incident to the Mankessim Police who issued her with a police medical report form to attend the Central regional referral hospital at Cape Coast.

Mr. Appiah Mensah was later arrested by the Mankessim Police and summoned before the court on March 4, 2000 and remanded him into custody to re-appear on March 10, 2005. He pleaded not guilty to the rape charge and was granted a 10million bail with two sureties to be justified. He is to reappear before the court this month.
