MP for Offinso South, Isaac Yaw Opoku
The Member of Parliament for Offinso South Constituency, Isaac Yaw Opoku, has cautioned against the registration of minors in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
He also raised an alarm over how most of his constituents are allegedly transported to other places (alien constituencies) to register their names.
Cautioning against minors' registration, he advised that it would be of great benefit for children who have not attained 18 to desist from registering.
He said parents who allow their children to register at those ages will cause harm to themselves in the future.
He revealed that, apart from the act harming their future, it is also a breach of the law that may attract punishment.
He has, therefore, urged parents to advise their wards who have not attained 18 years to desist from registering.
"I am urging parents to advise their wards to desist from registering if they have not attained 18 years. In the near future, it is going to affect them badly because it will expose and limit them to some opportunities.
"Even if you want to vote for me and you’re not 18 years old, do not go and register to put yourself in trouble," he said.
Apart from the parents, Isaac Yaw Opoku also charged politicians to desist from influencing children under the age of 18 for their parochial gains.
He also expressed concern over the alleged busing of Offinso South constituents to Techiman, Abofour, and other constituencies to register.
He said the act would go against Ofinso South in the future if not put to a stop.
According to him, Offinso South, which is tipped to be overpopulated, needs a convincing number to enable the government and the Electoral Commission to demarcate it to make way for smooth development.
The MP gave this advice after he had gone around to inspect the ongoing voter registration exercise within his constituency.
Giving his observation, he expressed joy over how the process had been without violence.
However, he entreated parents to encourage their wards who have attained 18 years to get registered and desist from being transported to other places, as had been alleged.
