The Lincoln Community School has held a media briefing to outline events for its 45th anniversary celebrations.
Dr Dennis Larkin, Head of the School, said the school began in 1968 under the direction of two couples from the United States, who had a vision for an American international school that would provide a nurturing education to children in Ghana.
He said Lincoln Community School strives to be a model American international school offering a broad and challenging educational program to students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Dr Larkin said the school was committed to inspiring students to achieve the highest standards of intellectual and personal development through a stimulating and comprehensive program.
“Within a caring, respectful, multicultural environment, the school is committed to instilling in each student a desire to learn, to take appropriate risks, and to accept challenges.
“The school community is committed to developing students who are resilient and adaptable, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and disposition to continue their education and become personally fulfilled, interdependent and socially responsible adults,” he said.
He said activities lined up for the 45th anniversary include a visit to an international artists workshop and exhibition on December 5, a night painting with Jennifer Baer Goss on December 14, as well as a Global Issues Service Summit on February 13-15.
The rest are an “Author Michael Thompson, Parent, Teacher and Student Workshops” on March 3-5, and the anniversary gala on March 29, 2014 to climax the celebration.
Dr Larkin said by 2015, the Lincoln Community School would be recognised as a leading international school in Africa by providing a rich cultural and social learning environment for families who sought an exemplary American/International Baccalaureate educational program.
He said their students would be innovative and resilient individuals who took initiative, collaborated effectively, and contributed meaningfully to society.
Dr Larkin said the school currently nurtured 700 students from more than 60 countries, a staff consisting 81 full time teachers, seven administrators and 104 administrative and support personnel.
He called on all alumni of the school as well as family and friends both in Ghana and abroad to join the school in celebrating the milestone.
