District 403-A2 of the Lions Club International, a service based organisation, has held its second cabinet meeting in Accra to take stock of its activities in 2014 and plan for 2015.
The meeting, which was under the chairmanship of Lion Mrs Diamilatou Aka-Anghui, Governor of District 403-A2, was attended by commissioners, regional and zonal chairmen of the club drawn from Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Liberia, Benin and Sierra Leone.
Mrs Aka-Anghui, at a news conference, said the meeting was very important as it enabled the leadership to take stock of the past activities as well as plan to move its agenda forward, especially in 2015.
She said the club had, over the years, supported the vulnerable in society, including the initiation of development activities in the area of health, education and other sectors.
“We have constructed the Tema Eye Care Centre and construction work is currently ongoing for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Eye Training Center to serve the West Africa Region,” she said.
Mrs Aka-Anghui said the club had donated 150,000 US dollars to support orphans of Ebola victims in Liberia and other affected countries in the sub-region.
She said the club had also embarked on a literacy campaign to promote and encourage reading habit among students by donating books to them and taking them through reading.
Lion Mrs Aka-Anghui said as an organisation that believed in the welfare of the people, the Lions Club International would continue to initiate pro-poor measures and other campaigns in its catchment areas for the benefit of humanity.
