Lorry fare increase triggers off confusion at Tepa

Tepa (Ash), Aug 09, GNA - Less than 24 hours after the increase in fuel prices, drivers at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District have arbitrarily increased lorry fares resulting in confrontation between passengers and drivers.

Both the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) have raised fares from Tepa to Kumasi to 8,000 cedis instead of 7,500 for buses and 10,000 cedis instead of 9,500 cedis for mini buses.

Passengers are saying if fuel prices had been increased by only 500 cedis, there was no justification for the drivers to pass on the whole 500 cedis to passengers.

The passengers have appealed to the government and the police to call these drivers to order.
