Nkrakwanta in the Dormaa West District recorded a low turnout during the National Sanitation Day programme.
The exercise which started at 0700 hrs, ended around 1000 hrs, saw volunteers and some members of the security agencies de-silting gutters, sweeping the Nkrakwanta market, and offloading debris from drainage channels with wheel barrows.
However, most indigenes in the area failed to participate in the programme.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwame Boakye, Nkrakwanta Divisional Police Commander, explained that the absence of laws to prosecute offenders who failed to honour the Day contributed to the situation.
Madam Ameyaa, assembly woman for the Asuopire East Electoral Area, said the lack of media outfits to help create awareness was a major factor responsible for the low turnout as a lot of people couldn't access information on the exercise.
