Odumase Krobo, Oct. 30, GNA - The Lower Manya District Assembly has embarked on a number of developmental projects in the education sector to improve quality learning and teaching. The projects comprised mostly construction of school blocks and teachers quarters at Obelemanya, Yokuyim, Nuaso Piegwa Ayermersu, Akuse, Kpong, Atua, Tsledom and Matse Israel. The projects are being undertaken with funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) with the aim of reducing scrapping "Schools-under-trees" and improve the standard of education in the district.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Isaac Agbo Tetteh, announced this at the third general Assembly meeting of the district at Odumase Krobo on Thursday.

He said the Assembly had submitted a list of deprived and vulnerable schools in the district to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Ghana School Feeding Secretariat to be considered for enrollment onto the school feeding programme.

The DCE also announced that currently ongoing was the construction and refurbishment of bungalow for the District Director of Education, which would bring to an end the long absence of a substantive Director for Lower Manya.

Mr Tetteh also mentioned that a number of needy and vulnerable school children had been given some financial support by the Assembly to help them to pay part of their school fees. He said apart from the educational sector, attention was being given to the other sectors such as water and sanitation, electrification and roads. The DCE said a number of refuse containers had been distributed to some communities and that the distribution would continue until every community got one. Mr Tetteh commended the District Assembly members for their selfless and dedicated spirit over the past four years. The Presiding Member, Mr David Walter, later announced the dissolution of the Assembly to pave way for the upcoming District Level Elections. 30 Oct. 10
