The parliamentary candidate pledged to continue to support teachers if he wins the election
The parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Lower Manya, Simon Kweku Tetteh has noted that several interventions have been put in place to address and improve the condition of the teachers in the constituency.
The lawmaker said this after he fulfilled a GHC 130,000 pledge to the education directorate of Lower Manya Krobo towards the upcoming teachers' awards.
Simon Kweku Tetteh, who's currently the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area and a teacher by profession, attributed his immense commitment to the welfare of teachers and education.
“It is also because I’m a teacher, and also, education-wise, since I assumed the job as MCE, I’ve been supporting education. Whatever activity they’re doing, I support it. In terms of classroom blocks, in terms of furniture, in terms of laptops, anything that would facilitate education in the municipality. The children are the future leaders, so we need to support the education directorate to be able to train our children,” he said.
The interventions also include changing all blackboards in schools into marker boards.
The donation of the items was in fulfillment of an earlier promise made by the aspiring lawmaker to the directorate as part of his contribution towards the successful organization of this year’s district teachers' awards programme scheduled for July 23, 2024.
The presentation was done at a short ceremony on the premises of the Lower Manya Krobo Education Directorate at Kpong.
The Lower Manya Teacher Prize was launched a few weeks ago to reward dedicated, hardworking, and long-serving teachers in the district.
The recognition is to demonstrate the directorate’s commitment to the welfare of teachers and non-teaching staff.
As part of his commitment to the teachers’ day event, the MP hopeful pledged to contribute his quota to assist the GES in successfully holding the event.
Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh tied his generosity to his background as a teacher, stressing that the welfare of teachers was therefore his utmost priority.
He donated 18 tabletop fridges, seven gas cookers, and a 14" LED TV set, all valued at GHS 130,000 cedis.
His support for the awards, he reiterated, is to motivate and encourage the teachers to give their best to the children.
He said the award must create the necessary competition amongst the teachers to “exhibit their professional skills” in any field they find themselves.
Underscoring his undying resolve to support teachers in the municipality, he said, “I’ll forever support education in the country. That is why, after being MCE, I’m moving to the level of MP. I’ll continue to support teachers.”
Municipal Director at the Lower Manya Krobo District Education Directorate, Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, received the items on behalf of the directorate.
Expressing his gratitude, he urged the teachers to be motivated by the kind gesture of the MCE to give their best in the discharge of their duties to encourage more of such support from benefactors.
“They should work hard and that in any way, whatever dimension they see themselves in, they should give off their best,” he said.
The items, he said, represented a chunk of the prizes to be donated and expressed confidence in securing the remaining items to be donated to the deserving teachers.
"This programme that we planned doing, we were envisaging how it is going to be easy for us to manage things to raise these items and today the MCE has redeemed his pledge,” he said.
