Obuasi, July 1, GNA - The management of the Mining and Building Contractors (MBC) and Liz Mart Shopping Centre and all companies in Obuasi have expressed their commitment to support blood donation campaigns to help save lives in the society, especially mothers in child birth and ailing children.
As part of their commitment, the two companies on Wednesday presented 10 cartons of Milo, five cartons of milk, 20 sachets of sugar and 200 'T' shirts totalling 12 million cedis to the Obuasi Government Hospital in support of the hospital's blood donation exercises. Mr J.K. Eduam, the Human Resources Manger and Mr Stephen Kyei Bosompem, the Industrial Relations Officer of MBC, said it was the corporate responsibility of the company to assist in promoting good health within its operational area.
Mr Bosompem said MBC was ever prepared to support individuals who donate blood to save the lives of pregnant mothers, children and those involved in serious accidents.
He said their donation was also meant to create the awareness for other companies to support blood donation in the Obuasi area. The Chief Executive Officer of Liz Mart Shopping Centre, Mr Kofi Quagrine, said the centre would always support health programmes aimed at reducing mortality rate and also improving the general health delivery in the district.
Miss Philomena Quayson, the Blood Donor Organiser of the hospital, appealed to other organisations to assist in improving blood at the hospital's blood bank so as to enable the authorities save lives. She said most patients needed blood for survival and that it was important for the public, including those who are against blood transfusion to contribute to ensure that blood banks were always filled with blood.
Mr Abraham Asare-Bediako, the hospital administrator, encouraged blood donors to continue to donate blood to save lives since the Ghana Health Service had instituted awards scheme for them. 1 July, 04
