Tamale, Aug 26, GNA - Mr. Lutz Krumnikl of Schmidt Kommunalfahrzeuge, a German waste management company, has sensitized about fifteen Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief executives (MCE/DCEs) of the Northern Region on good and effective waste management practices.
He said the government must invest in waste collection and sanitation business to protect the lives of people from contracting diseases relating to poor sanitation. The MCE/DCEs were sensitized on Tuesday in Tamale aimed at improving sanitation in the Northern Region.
Mr. Krumnikt expressed his satisfaction at the clean environment in the Tamale Metropolis and commended the region for adopting good sanitation practices that had made the city clean. He urged the government to buy good and long lasting waste management tools that could aid waste collection and management. Alhaji Haruna Friday, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, said financial constraints affected the government in its quest at cleaning the country.
He said despite the constraints the government was committed to adopting good sanitation practices and called for the enforcement of bye-laws on the protection of the environment. 26 Aug 09
