Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has cautioned the public against littering and indiscrimate dumping since such habits could lead to an outbreak of epidemics.

Mr Tetteh said this when he led the staff of the Agona West Municipal Assembly, the Security Agencies and the public in a-five-hour clean up exercise within the Agona Swedru Municipality.

The exercise formed part of activities marking Ghana’s 55th Independence Anniversary Celebration, which falls on Tuesday March 6, 2012.

The MCE urged the people to be aware of their civic responsibilities, which include keeping their surroundings clean to prevent the outbreak of cholera and other communicable diseases.

Mr Tetteh said the assembly would arrest and prosecute people who flout the bye-laws, including littering and dumping of rubbish indiscriminately

The MCE said as part of the celebration, Assembly workers, the security agencies and other voluntary organizations would attend a carols night at the Gospel Ambassadors Church on Monday, 5th March, 2012 at Agona Swedru to pray for the nation.

Mr Morgan Acquah, Agona West and East Director of Zoom Lion Company Limited, commended the voluntary organizations, especially keep fit clubs at Agona Swedru for their quick response to the exercise.

He appealed to the people in Agona West and East to stop dumping refuse at unauthorised places.

Mr Acquah said the company was doing its best to assist the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to manage sanitation in the area.
