Techiman (B/A) April 9, GNA - Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive has commended the municipal security council for the peace and stability in the municipality last year.
Addressing the second sitting of the second ordinary meeting of the second session of the Assembly at Techiman, the MCE said notwithstanding that a number of cases involving assault, stealing and murder were recorded. He said a review of the crime rate in the municipality showed that a total number of 2,857 cases were reported out of which 353 were convicted while the rest are under investigation.
Mr. Osei-Antwi said a total of 60 motor accident cases were reported out of which 30 lives were lost and culprits, who were mainly drivers, were fined.
He emphasised that for the peace and security in the municipality to be sustained, all residents must contribute their quota towards that goal.
Superintendent Paul Kojo Gyempeh, Techiman Municipal Police Commander, attributed the increasing crime wave to inadequacy of police personnel and the decline in support by watchdog committees.
He said the municipal police command was liasing with all stakeholders in the fight against crime and noted that the inadequacy of personnel and equipment for checking over-speeding and fake documents, among others, had given cause to unbridled over-speeding by drivers and subsequent accidents.
It has been revealed that many drivers do not have driving licences let alone road worthy certificates for vehicles, he said and warned such drivers to change or face the law.
