Bolgatanga, June 4, GNA - Municipal and district chief executives in the Upper East Region were on Thursday sworn into office with a call on them to offer dedicated service to the people and live modest lives. Mr Mark Woyongo, Regional Minister, who presented the two municipal chief executives and seven district chief executives with the Instruments of Appointment, asked them to demonstrate good leadership. He said; "The biggest achievement we can make is being able to woo our political opponents to our side; any agenda of exclusion will have a telling effect on our desire to remain in power". Mr Woyongo said the assembly had different people including the members of parliament, assembly members, district coordinating directors and heads of departments working together.
"You must endeavour to bring all these players on board in order to realize the vision that you craft for the district. Failure in recognizing each of these parts may create problems for your desire to move the district forward in the right direction". He asked them to respect the roles that each of those people played, saying, "for any meaningful development to take place, the environment must be devoid of tension, conflict, hostility, divisiveness and fear.
Mr Woyongo said; "It is therefore urgent that you promote peace and harmony in whatever capacity that you find yourselves for the rapid development of your districts".
The Minister condemned the situation where district chief executives had conflicts over supremacy with parliamentarians and district coordinating directors among others saying that it did not augur well for the development of the district. Mrs Vivian Anafo, DCE for Talensi-Nabdam who spoke on behalf of her colleagues said they would put up their best to fight poverty in the region.
She said their doors were opened to all and they would create an enabling environment to enable the people to share their experiences with them and to advice them where necessary. 04 June 09
