The Member of Parliament (MP) for Fanteakwa, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has awarded scholarships worth two million cedis from his share of the MP's Common Fund to 10 needy students in Ehiamankyene in the Fanteakwa District.
The scholarships will enable the beneficiaries in various second cycle schools in the country, some of whom were being threatened with dismissal for the inability of their parents to settle their fees, to do so.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Ehiamankyene at the weekend, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo urged the district assemblies to reduce the bureaucratic bottlenecks that frustrate parents when applying for financial support for the education of their children from the District Assemblies.
He explained that, such a situation would enable the parents to know the fate of their children and take early measures to ensure the continuous stay of their children in school.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo urged the assemblies to invest more in the training of the human resources base of the rural communities to enable such people to provide the necessary support to the development of those areas. He advised parents in the area to set their priorities right and reduce their investment on funerals and festivals and divert them towards the education of their children.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo tasked the Assemblyman of the area, Mr. Prosper Mausorley to monitor the performance of the beneficiaries and to send him copies of their terminal reports, adding that he would continue to support all those who continue to excel in their schools. He advised the beneficiaries to see the financial support though small as a means to inspire them to work hard adding that they were not the first to benefit from such support from him.
Earlier in a welcoming address, Mr. Mausorley expressed his appreciation to Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo for his care and interest in the education of the brilliant but needy children in the rural areas and expressed the hope that he would continue to offer such assistance to help poor children in rural communities to better their education.
