Agona Swedru (C/R), March 7, GNA - The District Chief Executive and Member of Parliament for Agona, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng on Monday appealed to people in the district to heed President John Agyekum Kufuor's call on Ghanaians to make positive contributions towards the attainment of national goals and aspirations.

He said for the nation to move forward in all aspects of national endeavour satisfactorily, the people must cultivate a strong divine love, for each other notwithstanding their individual political leanings, unity, mutual understanding, honesty and hard work. Mr Agyabeng said these are the most effective human development tools necessary for every citizen to acquire so that he or she could easily and regularly approach others and share ideas and experiences that would promote the socio-economic and cultural well-being of society.

Mr Agyabeng asked people and organized groups in the Agona district to assist the police flush out criminals and other undesirable elements in the area, reminding them that without their active involvement in the search for such dangerous elements, it would be very difficult for the police alone to do the work successfully.

He told the gathering that helping the law enforcing agencies to rid the society of criminals was part of the constitutional responsibilities of the citizenry, which people in the Agona |District should embrace.

On the other hand, in so doing, the people would be playing their individual and collective roles properly towards the attainment of a disciplined and progressive society, which is the vital pillar for the sustenance of an independent and democratic state like ours, Mr. Agyabeng added.

Nine schools, including the Swedru Secondary, Swedru Business, and Swedru Pentecost Primary schools were given awards at the ceremony for their excellent performance.
