Accra, July 20, GNA - Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, Deputy Minority Leader, on Thursday urged stakeholders in the educational sector to commit more resources to the development and improvement of public secondary schools.
He said support in various forms should be given to schools such as the Accra Academy Secondary School, which had given a lot to the development of Ghana.
Mr Doe-Adjaho was making a statement on the floor of the House to mark the 75th anniversary celebration of the Accra Academy School. He said the School, which had produced some prominent citizens of the nation, was grappling with so many challenges including that of acute accommodation problems.
He said the School could boast of eminent sons such as Mr Peter Ala Adjetey and Mr Justice D.F. Annan, Former Speakers of Parliament, who had contributed greatly to push the nation forward. Mr Adjaho urged the Government to go to the aid of the School to ensure that its needs were met for it to continue producing quality students who could contribute to the nation's development. Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of Education, Science and Sports, said Accra Academy had started from humble beginnings with so much sacrifice and voluntarism in its bid to serve the community. He said citizens of Ghana had a lot to learn from this spirit of sacrifice in order to make progress in the nation.
The Minister said the Government was committed to supporting all secondary schools and urged old students of various schools to contribute to the development of their alma mater. 19 July 06
