MP calls on newly enskined Paramount Chief

Tongo, (UE), July 9, GNA- Mr John Tia, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Talensi Constituency in the Talensi Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, on Sunday paid a courtsy call on Naba Boara Yanga Kolbil, newly enskined paramount chief of the Tongo Traditional Area.

Naba Kolbil succeeded the late Naba Kousaug Kwadan Tii Ondisor, paramount chief. Mr. Tia congratulated the new chief on his enskinment, and said he would support him to accelerate the development of the area. The MP said "As an MP for the area, and in recognition of the chieftaincy institition as an important development partner, there is the need to create the atmosphere for effective collaboration in developing Tongo."

Mr. Tia said he did not represent the interest of any particular political party and called on the people to support him towards the development of the area.

The MP also said "resources of the assembly should be considered as resources of the people and not for any political party and must therefore, be used for the benefit of the entire community and not any party or individual."

He urged the newly enskined chief to unite the people towards the development of the area.

Mr. Tia was accompanied by members of the NDC including Mr. Lionel Molbila, who served as Upper Regional Secretary under the Provisional National Defence Council Government.

Mr. Molbila presented a ram, three cartons of beer and other assorted drinks to the chief and his elders and urged the chief to ensure peace for the development of the area. The chief thanked the MP and the NDC members for honouring him and promised to support the MP towards the development of the area.
