The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkwanta- North Joseph Kwaku Nayan has commended teachers at the Kpassa Senior High Technical School for turning the generally low graded students into high performing assets.
He said this was evidenced in the performance of candidates from the School in the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“You are really putting in a great deal of efforts in turning these students around,” Mr. Nayan said.
Mr. Nayan made the observation at this year’s Stakeholders in Education Conference at Kpassa.
The Headmaster of the school Mr Lovingheart Kwame Amezah announced that the school has been granted boarding status this academic year, adding that the “good news” comes with a number challenges.
These include lack of befitting administration, science laboratory, students’ beds and school clinic; and limited number of teachers.
He said there are now 27 teachers and three National Service personnel to the student population of 1,400.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. Paul Levin Gyato said, parents in the district must take responsibility for educating their children because the pressure on the District Assembly and the MP’s share of the Common fund was becoming too heavy to bear.
“The tendency of parents expecting everything to be borne by government was not the best,” he said.
An Assistant Director of Education, Reverend John Koesa Ayayee, said the bad nature of roads to the area and the perception that the community was conflict prone tend to discourage teachers from accepting posting to the district.
He said, that notwithstanding, the Ghana Education Service would do its best to send qualified teachers to the district.**
