Kumasi, June 30, GNA - Mr. Edward Osei-Kwaku, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa-West, on Monday presented 12 million cedis worth of furniture to two educational institutions in Kumasi.

The furniture made up of 20 bunk beds and 20 school chairs, were procured from the MP's share of the common fund.

The beneficiary institutions are the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), which was presented with 20 bunk beds valued at eight million cedis and the Shukriya Islamic School at Atonso "S" Line which also received 20 school chairs worth four million cedis.

Making the presentation at separate ceremonies at KNUST and Atonsu, Mr Osei-Kwaku said the donation formed part of his educational programme designed to improve upon facilities in educational institutions in his constituency.

He said the furniture was the first consignment and gave the assurance that he was exploring various avenues to mobilise adequate resources to assist schools in his constituency with more furniture and other learning materials.

Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Mrs Sophia Quashie-Sam, Registrar of the university, who jointly received the bunk beds, commended the MP for his intervention and concern for quality education at the university.

They used the occasion to appeal to other stakeholders to emulate the MP and also contribute in cash and in kind towards improving facilities at KNUST.

Mr Samuel Kwasi Ahenkora, President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the university, also lauded the MP for his sensitivity to the plight of students, but, however, appealed to him and the government to strive to provide additional hostel facilities to cope up with the ever-increasing in-take of students.
