MP donates books and medical items to constituency

Akrofuom (Ash), Jan. 27, GNA - The Member of Parliament for the newly created Akrofuom Constituency, Mr K. Appiah-Pinkrah, has said the improvement of education and health delivery would be his major focus in the four years ahead.

Mr Appiah-Pinkrah said this on Sunday when he donated a set of library books each to all the 35 primary and 13 junior secondary schools in the constituency at a ceremony at Akrofuom in the Adansi South District.

At the same function, he presented a number of medical items worth more than three million cedis to the Akrofuom Health Centre. The items include gauze, bandages, facemask, syringes, digital thermometers, umbilical cord clamp among other items.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Appiah-Pinkrah commended the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs and the former sector Minister, Mrs Gladys Asmah for assisting him to get the books.

He said he spent four million cedis for the packaging and transportation of the books to Akrofuom.

The MP appealed to the constituents to support the government to facilitate the development of the area.

The acting District Chief Executive for Adansi South, Mr Dominic Yeboah, praised the MP for his effort to enhance standards of education and health in the constituency.

According to him, the books would assist the teachers to teach reading skills effectively in the schools.

Mr Yeboah asked parents to ensure that their wards attend school so that the donation of the books would become beneficial to the area. The DCE announced that the District had seen little improvement in education within the last four years as it moved from the 68th position in 2003 to 66th position last year in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Dr Samuel Osei Somuah, Obuasi Municipal Director of Health Services, who was formerly responsible for the management of the Akrofuom Health Centre, noted that the medical items would go a long way to enhance services at the Centre.
