MP donates motorcycles to education officers at Funsi

Mr. Ameenu salifu Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa, in the Upper West Region has donated six motorcycles and 25 RLG laptop computers to the district education office in Funsi at the weekend.

He said the donation was in fulfillment of a discussions he had with Mr. Evans Kpebah, District Director of Education to support the district circuit supervisors with means of transport to help facilitate their monitoring and supervision duties.

The cost of each motorcycle is GH 7,200 and it’s expected to assist the workers in their duties and the 25 computers would help students to access the internet and be abreast with ICT, to enable them to compete with students in other districts, the MP said.

Funding is from the MP’s share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund.

Mr. Salifu said he was working hard to provide district education officers with accommodation in their various communities to encourage teachers to stay and give out their maximum best to salvage the district’s declining performance in education.

Mr. Abdul Karim Abudu, District Chief Executive, who received the motorcycles, thanked the MP for the kind gesture, saying that, the assembly would support the benefactors with maintenance and fuel to enhance their work.

He appealed to the government and other non-governmental organisations to assist the district with infrastructure in the areas of health, roads and water.

Mr. Abudu said the district has no government hospital and relies on a hospital provided by the Catholic Church.

Mr. Evans Kpebah, who received the motorcycles on behalf of the circuit supervisors, assured the MP that the motorcycles would be put to good use.

He asked for more motorcycles for the remaining three circuit areas in the district to ensure effective and efficient supervision of schools.

Mr. Kpebah described the gesture as timely, since monitoring and supervision was weak in the district, saying: “I will not take it kindly with any supervisor who fails to execute his or her work properly”.

He thanked development partners such as Plan Ghana which supports the strengthening of school management committee members, the Ghana Partnership for Education Grand (GPEG) for supporting deprived districts and Pro Net.

Mr. Hudu Kunateh, a Circuit Supervisor said the motorcycles would enhance their work and also ensure quality teaching and learning.
