Zebilla (U/E) Oct. 27, GNA - The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bawku West constituency Mr. Cletus Avoka has expressed concern over the state of rampant robbery in the Zabilla district. He said barely a day passes without a reported case of armed robbery in the district and said this has created a state of insecurity in the area.
Mr. Avoka said this when he addressed members of the district assembly at its second ordinary session in Zebilla. He described the situation as dangerous and said the district is not an island in the country and people could move between one village to the other after 1900 hours.
He suggested that the assembly should allocate a specific budget as a matter of urgency to be used towards crime combat by peace officers since crime is no respecter of persons.
On the poor harvest this year, Mr. Avoka advised against the misuse of foodstuff on lavish funerals and marriages.
Mr. Avoka reminded members of the assembly that although the district assembly concept is non-partisan, they as individuals could belong to parties of their choice. Therefore their membership should not affect their credibility and divide the assembly to undermine development. The DCE, Mr. Moses Appiah Abaare, in an address announced the dissolution of the district tender board to be replaced with a new one. The new board has six membership with the DCE as chairman. Mr. Abaare said the assembly received 4.7 billion cedis as its share of the assembly's common fund for this year.
He said the locally generated revenue performance was a little above 190 million cedis, representing 63.3 per cent, as at August, and urged assembly members to educate their people to accept the challenge to pay their levies to improve upon the revenue situation. Oct.
