MP for Asawase donates to churches

Kumasi, Jan. 14, GNA - Alhaji Mutaka M. Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase in Kumasi at the weekend donated assorted food items to some Christian churches and institutions in the constituency.

The items worth 20 million cedis included 20 bags of rice, 12 boxes of biscuits and 28 boxes of fruit drink. Among the beneficiary churches were the Asawase Catholic, Presbyterian and Methodist, Asokore-Mampong Catholic, Akorem Methodist and Asokore-Mampong Holy Spirit.

Making the presentation at the various churches, the MP said the donation was to bridge the gap between Muslims and Christians in the constituency and called for tolerance among members of the Christian and Islamic faiths.

Institutions that benefited from the donation included the Kumasi Children's Home and the Garden City Special School. The Right Reverend Samuel Nathaniel Agyei, Superintendent Minister of the Asawase circuit of the Methodist Church, who received the items for his church, expressed appreciation to the MP for the gesture. In a related development, the Asawase circuit of the Methodist Church at the weekend donated assorted fruit drinks, four bags of rice and over 300 assorted canned fish to the aged and needy in the church. The Rt. Rev Samuel Nathaniel Agyei, Superintendent Minister of the church, who presented the items, called on the wealthy in society to assist those in need. 14 Jan. 06
