The Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku, Linda Akweley Obenewaa Ocloo, has cut sod for the construction of a 12-unit classroom block for Ayikuma Methodist Basic School in the Shai Osudoku District.

The ceremony, attended by traditional leaders, staff of the Shai Osudoku District Assembly, school authorities and community members, formed part of what the Minister described as a broader government effort to transform educational infrastructure across the district.

Addressing the gathering, Ocloo said the project is a fulfilment of a campaign pledge by President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise development in Shai Osudoku.

“President Mahama told us during the campaign that he would develop this area, and today we are witnessing that promise being honoured. What we are seeing here is just the tip of the iceberg. By the end of our four-year term, Shai Osudoku will experience significant transformation,” she stated.

She revealed that the classroom block is one of several educational projects earmarked for the constituency.

According to her, sod was recently cut for a nursing training college at Doryumu, with work progressing steadily, while plans are underway to establish a teacher training college.

The lawmaker further disclosed that the Ghanata Senior High School (GHANATA) will receive a girls’ dormitory block and an additional 12-unit classroom block, while Osudoku Technical University (OSUTECH) is also expected to benefit from a 12-unit classroom block and a girls’ dormitory.

She added that several bungalow projects have been awarded to support staff accommodation in the area.

The 12-unit classroom block for Ayikuma Methodist Basic School is estimated at GH¢5.1 million and will include washroom facilities, with each classroom designed to accommodate up to 40 students.

Construction is expected to commence in the first week of March 2026 and is scheduled for completion within 12 calendar months.

The District Chief Executive for Shai Osudoku, Ignatius Godfred Dodoe, commended the Regional Minister for her efforts in attracting development projects to the district.

He noted that many schools in the area are operating at full capacity, making the new facility timely and necessary.

The Ayikuma Mantse, Nene Nartey Asafo Adey Ahujaga III, also expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and government for the intervention, describing it as a major boost to education in the community.

The Managing Director of Keter-Plutus Construction Ltd, Julius Quarshigah, expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive, traditional authorities and the school community for the confidence reposed in his firm to execute the project.

He emphasised that the company has built a solid reputation for reliability and excellence, assuring residents that it would work closely with all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation, while upholding high standards of professionalism and transparency throughout the construction process.

Ocloo assured residents that government remains committed to expanding access to quality education in line with national development goals, emphasising that no child in Shai Osudoku should be deprived of the opportunity to learn due to inadequate infrastructure.
