Nkaseim (B/A), March 17, GNA - Mrs Cecilia Amoah Gyan, MP for Asutifi South in Brong Ahafo at the weekend commended the church for helping to sustain peace and stability in the country.
She said some neighbouring countries had been hit by political and social upheavals but noted that the constant education of congregations by religious bodies on the need for Ghanaians to live in peace had helped to sustain peace for development.
Mrs Gyan was addressing the congregation at a special service held by the Methodist Church at Nkaseim in Asutifi district in honour of Mr Ebenezer Kwame Ntreh, Brong Ahafo Area Manager of Ghana Commercial Bank for his immense contributions to the church's growth.
The service coincided with the 50th anniversary celebration of the church's Women Fellowship in aid of new musical instruments.
"We in Ghana are lucky indeed and I urge churches to continue to preach for peace and understanding among the people and educate them on pertinent national issues, including HIV/AIDS for their good health", she said.
The MP called on all eligible persons to register their names in the voters' register, explaining that the voter identity card was not only meant for elections but for other important needs, including identification for business transactions.
Mrs Gyan expressed the hope that Ghanaians would continue to tolerate each other's views on the political landscape to avoid violence during electioneering campaigns and voting.
She advised parents to instil discipline in their children so they could grow to become responsible adults, adding that girls, especially, should be encouraged to get enough time to study at home.
Assistant Superintendent Police Kofi Amakye, Goaso District Police Commander, called for the strengthening of Police-Civilian relationship since the police relied very much on information provided by members of the general public in their operations.
The church presented a special gift to Mr Ntreh after praying for him.
