Mrs Cecilia Gyan-Amoah, Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, has presented assorted drugs, babies' wear and bedsheets, valued at 25 million cedis to four health institutions in the constituency.

The items were donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in response to the MP's appeal for assistance to hospitals and clinics in the area.

The beneficiary institutions were Sienchiem Health Post, Dadiesoaba clinic, Acherensua health post and Twabidi No.1 clinic.

Presenting the items, the MP appealed to the recipient communities to observe basic hygiene to avoid filth-related diseases, such as buruli ulcer and typhoid fever, which are endemic in parts of the district.

Mrs Gyan-Amoah expressed the hope that the items would boost the morale of the communities and further contribute to a reduction in child mortality rate.

Miss Alice Vorleto, former Asutifi District Director of Health Services, now in-charge of public health, deplored the attitude of some people in the area to keep their sick relatives at home until their conditions deteriorated.

It is to address such situations that the District's Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has been put in place, she said and urged the communities to take full advantage of the cost-sharing concept.

Traditional leaders of the beneficiary communities promised to ensure that the items are used for the intended purposes.
