MP sinks sixteen boreholes for Madina

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency in the Greater Accra Region in collaboration with Qatar Charity and a friend from the Emirate, has sunk 16 boreholes in some peri-urban areas of the La-Nkwatanang Madina Municipality.

The boreholes worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis, were made available by the efforts of Qatar Charity, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and Sheikh Emarat, who also provided four in support of the efforts of the MP.

The boreholes are spread around the peri-urban areas of the municipality that are not serviced by Ghana Water and Sewage Company Limited.

The MP for the area, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface made this disclosure when he interacted with his constituents in Accra.

He said since the boreholes were inaugurated, the people in these areas have seen some improvements in their lives as they no longer scavenge for water.

He added that school children who hitherto have to travel long distance in search of water has become a thing of the past.

According to him, the boreholes can be found in areas such as Oyarifa, Adenta New Site, Gravel Pit area, Pantang, Otinibi and the new Redco Market created by the Assembly for street hawkers behind the famous Oman FM radio station.

The MP who is also the Minister of State at the Office of the Vice President explained that the bore-holes have been mechanized and are serving residents of the above-mentioned peri-urban areas of the municipality.

He said even though Madina is considered as one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Greater Accra Region, it has the largest number of peri-urban communities in the region lacks amenities such as water and electricity.

He revealed that Assembly members of the beneficiary communities in collaboration with the Unit committee members have set up Management Committee to manage the use of the bores.

He said by so doing the members will be task to collect some tokens on the use of the bore-holes for the payment of the electricity bills and maintenance of the mechanized bore-holes.

He said as part of his role as an agent of development for the area, he is duty bound to ensure that such amenities are provided to these communities to ameliorate their plights for living in these areas.

“I will do everything to ensure Madina gets it fair share of the national cake by collaborating with other colleague MPs and other donor partners to help change the lives of the people in the area.

‘’In spite of all these, some residents are quick to blame me for some the lapses that occur in the areas,” he said.

He related how the people have blamed him for the lack of foot bridges on the Madina-Adenta N four highway but what do we see today, we have six contractors are working on the fixing of the foot bridges.

He said some of these people are bent on running me down but ‘’I cannot not be run down as they are determined to do in the Constituency.

He minces no words to say he is determined to fight for the development of the Constituency and will not waste precious time to react to issues that comes with its political agenda.
