MP supports Sessiman's erosion control project

Nkoranza (B/A), March 23, GNA - Erosion poses a big threat to the lives of residents of Sessiman, a suburb of Nkoranza as gullies have been created in between houses, some of which can collapse easily during a severe downpour. The Nkoranza District Assembly made efforts to control the situation but to no avail and appeals to NGOs for support to control the drainage problem also yielded no positive response.

Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports and Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, touched by the plight of the people has offered 15 million cedis out of his share of the MPs Common Fund to help solve the problem. He said he was making contacts with the Ministry of Works and Housing, as well as Water Resources and Management Projects, to visit the area to study the situation and help address the problem.

Mr Thomas Adu-Appiah, Assembly Member for the area expressed gratitude to the Minister for his concern. He said the people would organise communal labour to help erect and create blockages around the buildings to check the erosion. The Sessiman community is to seek technical advice from a building construction engineer and also assign the contract work to an expert to work on the project. The Assembly Member appealed to the youth to respond and support efforts being made to control erosion in the community. Meanwhile, the Presiding Member of the District Assembly, Mr Adjei Yeboah has been charged to ensure effective supervision of the project for quality work.
