Winneba, Oct 9, GNA - The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Mr Mike Alan Hammah, has called for increment in the allocation of the GETfund to district assemblies to enable them to meet operational requirements of basic schools.

Mr Hammah said the current allocation of the fund to the assemblies was not adequate for the provision of furniture, classrooms and other equipment for basic schools and vocational institutions.

The appeal followed a day's working visit Mr Hammah paid to some basic and vocational institutions in the Effutu constituency on Tuesday. He announced plans allocate his 50 million cedis share of the GETFund to deprived schools in the constituency for the procurement of furniture for teaches and school children.

Mr Hammah said he discovered during the visit that the utilisation of HIPC fund and the GETfund have not had an impact on schools in the rural communities.

''There is the need for the allocations of the district assemblies to be increased.''

Mr Hammah appealed to the district assemblies to establish more schools so that all children of school going age could be enrolled.
