Nsawam (E/R), July 23, GNA - Fifty people died while 472 received various degrees of injuries through road accidents from January to December, 2002 last year in the Akuapem South District.
Chief Inspector James Karbo Domah, head of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Police at Nsawam made this kwon to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in an interview.
He said from January to June, this year, 12 people had died through road accidents while 203 persons got injured.
Chief Inspector Domah said 85 accident cases were reported at the Unit last year from January to June 2002 and 106 were also reported this year from January to June 2003, which shows that there had been an increase in road accidents in the district.
He noted that dodging of potholes, while driving at a top speed was one of the main causes of accidents and advised the travelling public to report the conduct of drivers to the police.
He also attributed other cases to the use of worn-out lorry tyres, drunkenness and failing to observed road signs.
Chief Inspector Domah warned drivers plying in the district to be cautious while driving to avoid road death.
