In a significant stride for women empowerment and leadership, Mabel Obeng is setting the stage as the only female candidate in the upcoming National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Presidential election.

The race, set to take place during the NUGS Residential Congress at Ejisu GNAT Village from 22nd to 25th September 2024, has seen Mabel emerge as a formidable contender, holding the number 5 spot on the ballot.

Mabel is currently pursuing an MPhil in Leadership at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). With a background rooted in leadership and service, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to empowering young women to take on leadership roles, particularly in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Her passion for women’s leadership is evident in her tenure as the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) TVET Officer and NEC member under the 57th NUGS administration.

Her portfolio of leadership extends beyond national borders, as Mabel serves as the Head of Membership for the Africa Diplomatic Organization and the ALSA Deputy Wocom Chair for West Africa.

She is also the Country Director for Young Women of Africa, an organization focused on supporting and mentoring young women. Through these roles, she has organized several symposiums, skill training sessions, and programs aimed at uplifting women across West Africa.

Mabel’s bid for NUGS President is a testament to her drive to inspire young women to take on leadership positions, offering a fresh perspective in a race historically dominated by men. Her track record of success in advocating for gender equality and leadership makes her a role model for young leaders across the nation and beyond.

As she embarks on this presidential journey, Mabel’s fearless approach to leadership and her unwavering commitment to competence make her a strong contender for the highest student office in Ghana.
