Mad rush for ‘Who killed the Judges’ book

There is mad rush for a book entitled, ‘Who Killed the Judges’ in Sunyani, the Brong-Ahafo Regional capital, after the Montie FM trio was handed a four-month imprisonment term by the Supreme Court for contempt.

They threatened to kill justices of the Supreme Court over an election-related case.

Many people are buying the book, authored by the late Chief Superintendent, Jacob Jabuni Yidani after the abduction and killing of three High Court judges and a military officer.

A book vendor in the city told DAILY GUIDE that he had increased the price of the book from GHC20 to GHC25 because of the development.

According to the vendor, before the Montie saga, he had a few copies on the bookshelf.

“Nobody even asked of the price of the book but in the wake of the sentencing of the Montie gang, many people, including senior police officers, lawyers, politicians, journalists and radio commentators, have all come to look for copies,” he stated.

A buyer told DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity that he wanted to buy the book to know the true story behind the killing of the judges because he did not want to be misinformed.

“I also want to see whether history is repeating itself or not. More so, I intend to do politics in future so I want to read it myself to know what led to the killing of the judges. The vendor said he now has more copies on the shelf than other books,” he underscored.

The 293-page book with pictures of the murdered three judges and the military officer – Justice Fred Poku Sarkodie, Justice Cecelia Koranteng-Addow, Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong and Major Sam Acquah – chronicles the beginning of the activities of the Special Investigation Board (SIB) set up to investigate the incident.

Interestingly, chapter one of the book sub-titled, ‘Beating the Drums of Violence,’ seems to depict the current scenario in Ghana.

The author, JJ Yidani, after his splendid investigations into the incident, was arrested on 6th March, 1983 and charged with the offence of harbouring criminals and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment together with his wife and two children.
