Madina and Adentan record more accidents

The Madina Divisional Police MTTU Command which comprises Adentan, Kwabenya and Madina in 2012 recorded 484 accident cases and about 240 of the accidents cases were from Adenta.

A report said 39 of these accident cases were very fatal with Adenta MTTU topping with 22 cases followed by Madina MTTU with nine cases and Kwabenya MTTU recording eight cases.

Persons killed under the age of 18 were 10, with Madina MTTU registering four cases and Adenta six cases.

The Deputy MTTU Police Commander in Madina, Deputy Superintendent of Police Charles Ahiamale said the injured cases were 228 and 97 persons were knocked down in the three district police MTTU commands.

In the month of January 2013 from Madina, Adentan and Kwabenya recorded 32 road accidents with 22 from Adenta and 7 persons from Madina while Kwabenya recorded 3 cases.

The accidents involved 19 commercial vehicles with 21 private cars knocking down 9 pedestrians.

He said 14 drivers were sent to court in 2013 and were fined GH¢15,640.00.

Mr. Ahiamale said Adentan MTTU had recorded high accidents rates and noted that the Adenta Highway is becoming an accident prone.

He said foot bridges and traffic lights were needed to reduce the spate of accidents and appealed to the authorities to fix foot bridges at SDA Junction, Ritz Junction, Madina Redco Junction, Zongo Junction, the Firestone Junction and the University of Ghana.
