Magistrate saves lives of two people

Suhum (E/R), Mar. 3, GNA- The timely intervention of the Suhum District Magistrate, Lt.-Col. Alex Kofi Lartey (rtd), saved a 36-year-old housewife, Miss Mensah Agbenu and her uncle from been slashed to death by Kofi Atiglo, husband of Miss Agbenu at Suhum on last Saturday.

Atiglo, a driver, inflicted severe cutlass wounds on the two and later arrested by police through the efforts of Col. Lartey. A police source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the couple lived in the same vicinity with the Magistrate at Suhum "44". It said Atiglo, who was believed by the wife to be an Indian hemp addict, had been assaulting her regularly.

The source said on February 28, after he was suspected to have smoked the stuff, Atiglo allegedly attacked the wife and her uncle, who was in Accra and had visited the couple.

It said when Col. Lartey, who heard the unusual noise from the house, asked Atiglo to stop what he was doing. he refused so Col. Lartey asked one Jacob Bentum, to go and disarm him while he rushed to report the matter to the police.

Atiglo on seeing the police took to his heels but he was later arrested.
