Mahama congratulates new Yaa Naa

Former President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the newly-nominated Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.

Yo Na Abukari Mahama II was selected on Friday, 18 January 2019, after the Andani royal family ended the funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani II.

In a Facebook Post on Saturday, 19 January 2019, Mr Mahama said: “Congratulations to Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, and I pray for greater wisdom for you as you begin your reign. Let’s continue to work together for lasting peace”.

Mr Mahama further expressed happiness that “after many years of hard work, negotiations, long meetings, disagreements, traditional considerations and agreements, we celebrate the efforts of successive governments for this day” as “Dagbon has finally seen peace”.

He further thanked the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei II for mediating and ensuring the restoration of peace to the troubled area.

Mr Mahama also expressed gratitude to the Andani and Abudu royal families of Dagbon for committing to the peace process and roadmap presented by the committee.
