Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur has said the dignity of the chieftaincy institution depends largely on the chiefs themselves.
He said the chieftaincy institution required people with potentials that could propel the development agenda of their respective traditional areas and tasked chiefs to set good example for others to emulate.
Mr. Amissah Arthur said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr. Henry Seidu Daanna, at a durbar to mark the 25th Anniversary of the enstoolment of Awulae Attibrukusu III, Paramount Chief of Lower Axim.
He congratulated Awulae Attibrukusu III, on his Silver anniversary and commended him for distinguishing himself during his reign.
The Vice President said the chieftaincy institution is relevant to the socio-economic development of the country and noted that the paramount chief exhibited quality leadership that brought a lot of fame and development to the traditional area.
Awulae Attibrukusu III, who doubles as the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs and former President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, thanked God for his divine guidance that enabled him to settle all chieftaincy litigations and maintained peace and harmony in the traditional area.
He said building the human resource capacity of the youth was his priority and, therefore, established a community-based Senior High School to educate them.
He said through the support of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Tullow Ghana Limited, he managed to secure scholarships for some students in the traditional area as well as other students in the Region
During the 25 years reign, Awulae Attibrukusu also served two terms as Vice president and president of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, as well as the Vice president of the National House of Chiefs.
Awulae Attibrukusu, known in private life as Eddie Kofi Arthiabah was the sixteenth paramount chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area and enstooled on August 10, 1988 at the age of 26.
The occasion attracted high profile dignitaries including the wife of the Vice president, Mrs. Matilda Amissah Arthur, Western Regional Minister, Mr. Ebenezer Kwadwo Teye Addo, and his Deputy Mr. Alfred Ekow Gyan, the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketsia, among others.
