Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has advised students to be disciplined and strictly abide by school rules and regulations.
He reminded them that this was the path to academic success.
Mr Onyinah was inaugurating the Juaso Senior High School (SHS) Army Cadet Corps at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District.
He counseled the students to avoid acts of vandalism, hard drugs, occultism and sexual adventurism.
Again, they should stay away from examination malpractices but rather work hard on their books.
Mr Onyinah said that the introduction of cadet corps in schools is meant to build in the students the right attitudes and values to make meaningful contribution to the nation’s development.
He, therefore, asked the members to become good examples to their colleague students.
Mr J. K. Anderson, the Headmaster, complained about the neglect of some bungalows started 13 years ago to provide accommodation for teachers and appealed to the government to reactivate work on them.
He praised Dr Christine Amoako-Nuamah a member of the Council of State and a citizen of the area, for her tremendous support for the school.
She was instrumental in getting them a science resource centre, school bus, a six-unit classroom block and a three-storey dormitory block, he said.
Mr S. K. Obeng, a former Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES) and Chairman of the school’s Board of Governors, said the cadet corps must be encouraged because of the positive influence on students.
