Gomoa-Kyiren (C/R), Opanyin Kobina Essel, an 80-year-old maize-grower at Gomoa-Kyiren in the Central Region, on Monday advised farmers in the area to take advantage of the rains to prepare their farm lands for the cultivation of maize.
He also advised cassava and vegetable growers in the district to initiate similar moves for good results.
Speaking to the GNA in interview at Gomoa-Kyiren, Opanyin Essel said although he was not a meteorologist, experience had shown that the recent heavy rains had given indications that early planters could get good yield this year.
Opanyin Kobinba Essel appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to provide adequate financial package to rural farmers to sustain their interest in food and economic crops production.
He said this the appropriate time for such assistance to be channelled to food growers in the countryside so that they could use it to clear large stretches of lands for cultivation and also to procure seedlings.
