Abuakwa (Ash), May 19, GNA - Majority of the constituency executive members and polling station chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Atwima-Nwabiagya staged a boycott of a forum held at Abuakwa to introduce the party's parliamentary aspirants to the people.
This followed disagreements over the decision to introduce the aspirants without taking them through the due process of vetting. The boycott, however, did not stop the constituency chairman, Nana Kofi Owusu from going ahead to parade the aspirants and provide them with the platform to present themselves and their manifesto.
Four people, including the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, have filed their nominations to contest the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the party in the coming December polls.
The others are Dr Asafo Adjei, 54, a scientist, Nana Yaw Frimpong-Mensah, 49, a businessman and Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, 35, General Manager of the Georgia Hotel in Kumasi.
Apart from the incumbent MP who was reported to have travelled to Accra, the remaining contestants were all present at the forum. Dr Asafo Adjei told the people that if given the nod, he would vigorously work in pursuit of rural development.
On his part, Nana Frimpong-Mensah promised to ensure fairness in the disbursement of the assembly's poverty alleviation fund. Mr Owusu-Bio, on the other hand spoke of education promotion, good health, sanitation and job creation as his main goals.
Earlier, Mr Joseph Amankwaah alias 'Akintola', a well-known activist of the party, has expressed worry about what, he said, was the lack of unity, co-operation and mutual understanding among the party's leadership in the constituency.
He appealed to the constituency executive to resolve their differences and work as a team to move it forward. "Let us all recognise the need to respect internal democracy and operate within the confines of our party's constitution in order for peace and harmony to be restored to the NPP in this constituency".
