Begoro (E/R), Jan. 18, GNA - The Begorohene, Osabarima Awuah Kotoko, II has called on the District Assemblies to make the Peoples Assembly concept a regular affair to ensure broad and regular participation of the people in the governance of their areas. Speaking at a Peoples Assembly forum at Begoro on Friday, he stated that this would help mobilize the resources of the people for development, giving their full participation. He said the people in the district have embraced the national Health Insurance Scheme and would ensure that all benefit from it.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah announced that the government had disbursed 34 billion cedis to all the districts as seed money for the implementation of the scheme. The government spokesman for economic affairs, Nana Ohene Ntow, said the country stood to earn 1.4.3 trillion cedis when it reached the completion point of the HIPC initiative this year.

Speaking on the economic management policy of the Kufuor administration, he said the inflationary rate had been brought down from over 46 per cent to about 26, while the bank interest rate also came down from around 50 per cent to about 26 per cent currently. An Ex-serviceman, Mr Evans Kojo Antwi, deplored the on-going public discussion on national security issues on the media, saying "democracy does not mean loose security that can lead to national destabilization".

The Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoi Ceasar, who recounted the development programme in the district, appealed to the Ghana Telecom Company to expedite action on the provision of the telecommunication service to the area.
