Accra, July 26, GNA - Pro-Image Communication Consult (PIC) and the Makola Traders Association (MTA) on Thursday organised an educational exercise to educate the market women on the re-denomination. The programme which was the first to be organised by PIC and MTA aimed at educating the market women on how to use the new Ghana Cedi and also give the women the chance to ask questions on the new currency. The president of MTA Madam Yemotele Quaye said it had become necessary because most market women still had difficulty in dealing with the money.
''We have witnessed a lot here in Makola, where some traders had just refused to accept the new currency, some also accept it but will not accept the change in the old cedi, while others do not handle the notes with care ''she said.
'' The new Ghana Cedi has come to stay and there is the need to educate our women in ways which would help deepen their understanding. ''
Mr Nathaniel Ebo Nsorko, the Chief Executive Officer of PIC and the facilitator of the Programme said there was need to conscientise Ghanaians, particularly traders to nurture some level of appreciation for the new Cedi and place the needed value on it and handle it with care.
Madam Akweley, a trader and a member of MTA said she had enjoyed the drama and understood the new currency better.
''Initially I did not accept the new cedi because I did not believe in it but from the drama I have learnt my lessons, '' she said. Fusana Alhassan, a porter at the market said she also did not accept payment in the new currency for carrying load for people. ''My friends said the new currency is fake so I should not collect it, but from the drama today I think it is a lie'' she said.
