Mampong Babies Home receives gifts

Mampong (Ash), June 24, GNA - The Saint Andrews Anglican Church in Droysden Manchester and the Saint Paul's Anglican Church in Canterbury, both in the United Kingdom, have as part of their social responsibilities donated items worth 1,000 Pounds Sterling and some babies clothing to the Mampong Babies Home at Asante-Mampong. The items which are to facilitate teaching and learning, include assorted toys, stationery, reading books, furniture, baby cupboard and bowls.

The donation was facilitated by Mrs. Elizabeth Tumtuo Welbeck, Member of the Saint Andrews Church and a native of Asante-Mampong and the Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, the Anglican Bishop of Kumasi and the Chairman of the Management Board of the Home. Madam Charlotte Tumtuo, sister of Mrs. Welbeck, presenting the items on behalf of the donors, said as natives of Asante-Mampong, they were touched by the plight of the orphans and, therefore, raised funds from the churches for their up-keep.

She said the donation would also assure the children that they are loved, adding that, this would be done regularly. In another development, the Amaniampong Kroye Kuo of the United States of America (USA), Canada and Europe, who are also natives of Asante-Mampong, have renovated some buildings, including the teachers' quarters of the Home at GH¢4,000. Mr. Kwame Kesse, Representative of the Association, indicated that the group also organized a children's party for the children in the Home during the last Yuletide.

He disclosed that the group would soon raise 100,000 dollars to renovate the Children's Ward at the Mampong District Hospital. Madam Mabel Asafo Agyei, Superintendent of the Home, stated that the Home rarely received babies abandoned but had more babies whose mothers died during or after birth. These babies are nurtured through their vulnerable first years and later reunited with the surviving members of the families. Bishop Yinkah Sarfo, on behalf of the children, expressed gratitude to the donors and gave the assurance that they would be used for their intended purposes.

He said the Home had not received any major renovation since it was established, grateful that the renovation had come at an opportune time. He, therefore, appealed to other organizations to also donate to the Home.
