Mampong College of Education faces infrastructure faces

Mampong (Ash), Oct. 18, GNA - The Principal of Mampong Technical College of Education (MTCE), Madam Margaret Opoku, has expressed concern about lack of infrastructure in the college and said the situation had affected the admission of fresh students.

She said out of the 525 students who applied for admission only 223 were offered admission.

Madam Opoku was speaking at a matriculation ceremony for 223 fresh students for 2010/2011 academic year on Saturday.

She said the college was making efforts to upgrade the dormitory and other old infrastructure in the college which were built in 1922, adding that some of the challenges needed external support. The Principal said there was an urgent need for an administration block, an auditorium, a three-storey dormitory for students as well as a block of flats for tutors. She said the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has allocated GH¢350,000.00 for the construction of a one storey administration block for the college. Madam Opoku called on the government to renovate the internal road network of the college.

A lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. Stephen Baafi Frimpong, stressed the need for teachers to be well trained qualified and committed to their work to enhance education in the country He advised the teachers to up-grade themselves to ensure teacher quality and effective education delivery. Dr Frimpong said the quality of teachers was crucial towards effective professional development.
