Cape Coast, Oct. 22, GNA- Dauda Kramo, a 59-year old driver from Moree, near Cape Coast, who has allegedly sold water he illegally connected to his home for the past five years, was on Wednesday granted two million cedis bail when he was put before a circuit court at Cape Coast.
Kramo, who pleaded not guilty, is alleged to have caused the Ghana Water Company (GWC) to lose about 23.3 million cedis, and had attempted to bribe officials of the company who uncovered his deeds. He is to re-appear on Wednesday, November 12.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court that last Wednesday, a team from the GWC in Cape Coast, went on a mass disconnection exercise at Moree, where they detected that Kramo had illegally connected water into a reservoir in his home.
He said Kramo, who was found to be selling the water, had covered the water meter in his house, making it impossible to read the amount of water in the reservoir.
Chief inspector Amonoo added that Kramo's illegal dealings had gone undetected for five years, until last Wednesday, when the team showed up at the house.
The prosecution said Kramo attempted to bribe the team but it turned down the offer.
