Man jailed 12 years for impregnating minor gets sewing machine from NGO

An ambitious young man who is serving 12 years in prison has received an industrial sewing machine from the Prisons Aid Foundation.

Ishmael was jailed for defiling a minor who subsequently got pregnant and gave birth to twins.

Narrating his story to Ambassador Extraordinaire of Prisons and Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, the convict said his affair with the girl was an agreement between both of them.

He also said he would not have had sex with the girl if he knew she was a minor as claimed by her parents because her body features did not suggest that she was underage.

Nonetheless, his sexual pleasures ended him in jail since he was found guilty of defilement.

But that did not stop him from getting himself trained for the job market as he is optimistic he will serve his term and eventually be set free to live a normal life.

Having realised that he can never achieve his dream of becoming a footballer due to the jail term, determined Ishmael decided to learn a trade in tailoring so he could earn a living and take care of his twins and their mother.

When Crime Check TV visited him at the Communicable Disease Prison in Cape Coast, Ishmael who is due to go home in few months appealed for a sewing machine to enable him run his tailoring venture when he eventually leaves prison.

A philanthropist, the Executive Director of Prisons Aid Foundation, John Aryetey decided to save Ishmael from joining some ex-convicts who end up engaging in criminal activities as result of their inability to find descent jobs in the country.

Mr. Aryeetey donated the industrial electric sewing machine Ishmael requested which was presented to him by the Ambassador Extraordinaire of Prisons and Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng.



Receiving his gift, Ishmael expressed his gratitude to Mr. Aryeetey for the gesture and asked for God’s blessings for him.

A prison officer also commended the foundation for the support they have been giving to the various prisons in the country.
