Man remanded for possessing fake currency

Tema, March, 4, GNA- The Tema Circuit Court "B" on Wednesday remanded into custody an unemployed man who had in his possession five thousand cedis notes suspected to be fake currency.

Kwasi Ankah who pleaded not guilty will reappear on March 17, 2004. Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor, told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on February 27, 2004, the complainant was working with his taxi and at about 2230 hours, Ankah boarded the taxi from Community One to the Sakumono village, and gave five thousand cedis note to pay for his fare.

When the driver felt the texture of the money, he suspected it to be fake and therefore, demanded for another note, but Ankah gave out additional four of five thousand cedis notes, which were all fake. Inspector Nutakor said when the taxi driver reached Community One police station he reported the matter and Ankah was arrested.
