Tarkwa (W/R), July 31, GNA - A Tarkwa Grade One Court has remanded Yaw Mensah Aborampah, 40, a farmer, in prison custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend.

His plea was not taken and would reappear in month's time. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Anthony Akowuah of Wassa Akropong Police told the court that Aborampah, a citizen of Kwahu Mpraeso, went to settle at Saa, near Wassa Akropong, in December 2002 and befriended Akua Benewaa, 42, also a farmer.

He said in April, this year, the relationship came to an end due to the bad behaviour of the man, adding Aborampah could take the deceased's money without informing her, was always drunk and also prevented the deceased's relatives from entering their home among other things.

Chief Inspector Akowuah said about 0730 hours on July 8 Aborampah went to lay ambush on a path leading to the deceased's farm and attacked while she going to the farm hitting the back of the deceased's head with a side of a cutlass several times until she died.

He said Aborampah, who admitted his guilt in his cautioned statement, bolted after committing heinous crime.

Chief Inspector Akowuah said at about 1030 hours on the same day, Ama Akyere, a sister of the deceased, saw her lying in a pool blood while returning from her farm.

Akyere rushed home to inform the family elders and the Police. Chief Inspector Akowuah said post mortem report indicated that Benewaa died of severe head injury.

He said message of the death went round the villages and towns in the area and when on July 10, Aborampah went to an akpeteshie distillery at Wampam, near Ayanfuri in the Western Region, one of the palm wine tappers, David Anokye suspected Aborampah.

Anokye went to inform another farmer, John Kwasi Amoa and they made sure that they gave him enough of the stuff and after that they arrested him and handed him over to the Police.

Aborampah told the Police that he did not know what prompted him to commit the crime.
