Man remanded over death of two children

Donkorkrom (E/R), July 31, GNA- A 35-year-old man who allegedly killed two girls through food poisoning, has been remanded in prison custody by the Donkorkrom Magistrate Court for murder.

The prosecution told the court that Cosmos Kwame Gyamfi, whose plea was not taken, befriended one Madam Alice Yaa Boakaake, at Apapa, a village near Mame Krobo in the Afram Plains.

The relationship came to an abrupt end early this year so the accused visited the school of Alice's daughter, Veronica Afua Kegyengi, 6, at the Mame Krobo St James Preparatory School.

The prosecution told the court that Gyamfi sent a child to buy him one thousand cedis worth of food and mixed it with poisonous substance and gave it to the little girl, Vero.

Vero, the prosecution said, rushed to the classroom with the food and lovingly invited five other friends to join her to enjoy the food from Gyamfi. They included Grace Owusuaa, 8, Attah Joseph, 7, Elizabeth Nyankomango, 7, Portia Akosua, 7 and Mariama Shaibu, 9.

It said no sooner had they finished eating the food than they began to complain of abdominal pains while vomiting and this resulted in the sudden death of Vero.

The prosecution said the other girls were rushed to the Ekye-Amanfrom clinic where Mariama died soon on admission while the others were treated and discharged.

Upon his arrest and interrogation, Gyamfi, who allegedly admitted, the offence.
