Tema Manhean, April 17, GNA - Management of Meridian FM Radio Station based at Tema Manhean on Sunday donated used clothing worth about 20 million cedis to nearly 1,000 needy children in and around the community as part of its programme for this year's Easter activities. The children, drawn from Tema Manhean, Sakumono Village, Teshie, Nungua and Ashaiman were earlier feted to varieties of food, soft drinks and danced to brass band music organized for them by the Executive Director of the station, Mrs Diana Heyman-Adu.

They also had quiz on social, culture and the environment during which those who excelled were presented with prizes.

Mrs Heyman-Adu, the first Ghanaian woman to operate a private radio station said the plight of underprivileged children was paramount to the management therefore; there was the need to give them comfort but not left in isolation while celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. She said the management would sponsor the education of some of the needy children in order to keep them off their interest in going to the beach daily even at tender age.

The Executive Director entreated parents to take advantage of the government's capitation grant to ensure that their children attended school rather than develop the interest of fishing.

Mrs Heyman-Adu expressed appreciation to traders at Makola, Katamanto, Tema market, churches and fish mongers who donated generously in kind and cash towards the success of the programme.

Some of the children who played truant at school expressed gratitude to the management and promised to consider their stand and enrol in schools.

They however, pleaded with their parents to provide them their basic needs.
